Outlander: Where did this movie come from?

spaceship iron sharpens spaceship iron!
I saw this on the SciFi (or SyFy?) Channel on Monday night and flipped it on for the last 45 minutes. It appeared to be some type of Beowulf/Alien hybrid. Did you ever see this? It wasn't too bad, I just have no clue how its gone completely underneath my radar. The imdb synopsis is:

"During the reign of the Vikings, Kainan, a man from a far-off world, crash lands on Earth, bringing with him an alien predator known as the Moorwen. Though both man and monster are seeking revenge for violence committed against them, Kainan leads the alliance to kill the Moorwen by fusing his advanced technology with the Viking's Iron Age weaponry."

But, from what I saw, its 'Beowulf' with two alien monsters replacing Grendel and his mother. It was entertaining enough I guess. I'd probably have to see it from the beginning.

Outlander?

  1. ummm... you have got to be kidding me. i stumbled across this at the very beginning (probably the exact same showing) , and after watching it for about 15 minutes was like, "ohh, billy bob told me about this".... upon watching for another 15 minutes was like, "umm, i don't think this was what he told me about" (i was confusing it with pathfinder... vikings vs indians... vikings vs aliens.. whoops)

i hit 'info' and saw ron pearlman was involved (always a good thing) and at that point was pretty interested in the premise, so i decided to stick with it.... i mean, watching this giant alien creature rip through a viking village (it had some special effects that seemed a lot more outdated than 2008 - when the movie came out) is always a good sight, right?

anyway, you're review is pretty accurate... except i liked this better than beowulf... i thought it was pretty entertaing for a movie i had never heard of about aliens and vikings.

    un f'n real...

  2. See, I missed all of the parts featuring the monster rip apart the Viking village. I tuned in right when the surviving villagers packed up and left and Jim Caveizel made that kick ass sword out of his spaceship (which is just a hilarious thing to write). Then they went down the well and fought the Moorwen in the caves.

So did Jim Caviezel not have any other weapons on his spaceship? If I understand the synopsis, Caviezel crashed on Earth, released a civilization destroying monster, and had no weapons to kill it...I bet the Vikings were expecting someone like Han Solo or Sgt. Todd from 'Soldier' to emerge from that spaceship. Were they disappointed? (Or even better, if Col. John Rico showed up and said, "I hear you have a bug problem.")

Also, you still haven't seen 'Pathfinder'?

  3. bad job by not seeing pathfinder... i just never came across it, and was never interested enoug to seek itout... i'll see it eventually.

as for outlander, it has a crazy back story where caviezel explains how his race took over the planet that used to be inhabited by this monster... they were in spacehips and just level the place with napalm and then settled there - they thought they killed them all... but they didn't...

the vikings never thought he was from space.. his story was his ship crashed and his crew was dead... so they just assumed he meant boat.... until the end, where he takes them to where his ship went down, and the one guy says, "in a lake?"

the one sidekick guy with the shaved head is named 'boromir' - who actually uses the line "in the cups" when explaing how blasted he was from drinking mead.

an added beowulf connection is the king is "Rothgar" (as opposed to "Hrothgar")

it had a little 'predator' vibe to it as well... loved ron pearlman look in it... death by alien monster tail decapitation is a tough way to go.
