Hotel TV channel guide: Where the hell are you??

Where are you in my hotel?? You've deserted me when I needed you most, jerkass.

I've been traveling a ton lately, and I've pretty much reached the breaking point on one particular issue in regard to hotels: why don't hotel tv's have channel guides? Seriously, WHY!!?? Its absolutley infuriating.

The hotel industry has adopted every other 21st century in-room technological amenity to make your stay as comfortable as possible - wireless internet, flat screen HDTV, digital heat/ac, outlets all over the room...then, suddenly, you turn on the tv and its like you are transported back to 1999 (that's a ballpark guess, I can't remember when exactly tv channel guides became the status quo. I just picked the beginning of the millennium). I have to blindly search/flip around the tv stations, a chore I find exasperating since I've been living off my DVR for the last 3 years. Is this how we used to live?? Bad times.

The logical reason is the hotels are trying to push/break you into purchasing one of their absurdly priced PPV movies. But, according to this article, hotels only bring in 10-15 percent off PPV purchases. So, then, what the hell is going on here?? I want my goddamn tv channel guide and I want it yesterday. This is bullshit.

  1. hmmm I'm sure there's a terrible cable movie worth watching you could find.

  2. You should tell them to call E-Guide Services, Inc. They offer a product called E-GuideTV that offers channel guides to hotel rooms for a low cost.
