Tony Scott (RIP) felt need for speed, does a 4G negative dive off San Pedro bridge

"Top Gun" director Tony Scott jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon. He was 68.  His body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Port Police, who were the first on the scene.  Several witnesses told police they saw Scott get out of his Toyota Prius, which was parked on the bridge, about 12:30 p.m. Then he scaled an 8- to 10-foot fence and jumped off without any hesitation, law enforcement sources said.

Pete Mitchell is not taking the news well
Yeesh, RIP Tony Scott.  I guess when your life revolves around making phenomenal action movies one after the other, and then you get diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer and decide its time to move on...you simply locate the nearest bridge, park your car, crank up "Danger Zone" in your headphones, and make the (probably inverted?) leap.  Gutsiest move I ever saw, Mav.

I wonder if he radioed the tower and requested permission for the fly-by before he jumped?

*I don't know if you can determine which Tony Scott movie was the best, but what was the worst?  It has to be either The Fan or Domino, right?  They were both dreadful.

  1. the fan was brutal - but i give it the edge over domino because he hired john kruk for a speaking role in that one... and then had him killed in that crazy scene in the rain. it literally makes the end the movie unbelievably re-watchable.

if i stumble across the fan, and that final scene is on the horizon, i am always watching it to see kruk get senselessly knifed.

  2. Ha, you're right...I totally forgot about John Kruk being in there. I gotta watch the end of that again.

Btw, now its being reported the Scott *didn't* have inoperable brain cancer - how the hell does that get misreported?? Making J&N look bad goddammit.

  3. um... was this news misreported to scott himself? seems like hearing that news would make a few people (especially a guy with flair for the action packed sequence) jump off a bridge... were the doctors just messing with him, and laughing so hard at his 'suicidal reaction' that the couldn't tell him they were goofing around in time?

a joke hasn't gone over this poorly since bill murray pretended to be a zombie and scare jesse eisenberg.

  4. Deja Vu was the worst. THE. WORST.

  5. deja vu ranks higher then 'the fan' for me two reasons: 1)time travel is involved and 2)proof val kilmer is still alive.(at the time, at least)

  6. It's not even real time travel haha, it's like he's technically still in his time but can see stuff from the past with some goggles or something. Val Kilmer's still alive? I thought he ate himself to death like Pizza The Hut

  7. as far as i know, the last confirmed kilmer sighting was in 'bad lieutenant: port of call new orleans'.... but that was in like 2010... i am not sure if he's still with us.

  8. Fat Val Kilmer made an appearance as the villain, Dieter Von Cunth, in "MacGruber".
